Artist's Description

The water is flowing fast in the Milwaukee River these days. This shot was taken under the Locust Street bridge on the East Side of Milwaukee. Taken at midday, I used a 10-stop ND filter to slow down the water and create the smooth, silk-like motion.

For some reason, while I was shooting, the chorus of the Talking Heads song "Once in a Lifetime" was running through my head:

"Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground"

Does it have any relevance to the shot (outside of flowing water)? Not really. But I thought I'd share a little of what goes on in my head sometimes when I shoot. It doesn't always make sense. But it is who I am!

Day 363 of my 365 photo a day project.

I take the raw images and create what I see in my mind's eye. Coaxing out textures present in the shot - sometimes adding them. Enhancing the contrast of light and dark to create the mood and emotions I felt and feel. In the end, it's all about listening to my heart and mind and...
